If there is one weekend throughout the entire year that hockey fans can (and should) veg out on the couch or get out and show their love for the great sport, it’s February 20th and 21st. Football is finally over, baseball hasn’t quite yet started, and the country is finally taking note of the greatest sport in the country for an entire weekend, dubbed Hockey Weekend Across America.
The ninth annual Hockey Weekend Across America will be held February 19-21, 2016. Hockey lovers – get ready to get your mind blown for a jam-packed weekend of everything hockey.
According to the USA Hockey website, “Hockey Weekend Across America is an opportunity to shine a light on our sport and has become a signature event the entire hockey community looks forward to each year,” said Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey. “It’s great to celebrate the game and those involved at all levels, and also give new families an opportunity to try our great game.”
Hockey Weekend Across America will include a theme for each of the three days, including Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey Day on Friday (Feb. 19); Try Hockey Day on Saturday (Feb. 20); and Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes Day on Sunday (Feb. 21).
According to the website, “Hockey Weekend Across America was created by USA Hockey in 2008 to engage the hockey community in celebrating the sport of hockey at all levels and exposing the sport to new audiences.”

Saturday, February 20th: Hockey Weekend Across America Try Hockey For Free Day
Hockey Weekend Across America will be highlighted by Try Hockey For Free Day, which is presented by Kraft Heinz, on Saturday, February 20, 2016. This is a national effort with over 300 local rinks and associations introducing kids ages 4 through 9 to youth hockey. Host locations will receive jerseys, promotional items, marketing tools, USA Hockey sanctioning and online registration to maximize participation. This is our time to shine and get kids involved in the sport we already love. February is a great opportunity to attract new families who are thinking hockey because it’s winter.
